FREE THE METAL is made to order and is final sale. Once we assemble unlacquered brass onto vegetable-tanned leather, the materials begin responding to contact, humidity, and time. A returned belt may no longer retain its untouched starting condition and cannot be resold as new.
We therefore do not accept returns, refunds, or size exchanges for change of mind, incorrect sizing, or natural finish variation. This does not affect mandatory rights under applicable law if an item is faulty, damaged on arrival, or not as described.

JOEY is built around four solid-brass components: one buckle, two keepers, and one tip. Solid brass hardware is often protected by a clear lacquer to keep its colour stable and visually consistent.
For EXPERIMENT 001, we left the brass unsealed. The main product photographs show the general starting tone you can expect, but unlacquered brass may continue to shift in storage and transit.
From that point, air, humidity, touch, and time begin to register on the surface. Its tone may already have begun to shift by the time the box reaches you. The hardware will not remain the same colour. Frequently touched areas may behave differently from recessed areas, and the buckle, two keepers, and tip will age at different rates. The most visible changes usually happen early. As the patina develops, the brass tends to settle into a slower, more stable state while continuing to respond gradually to touch, humidity, and time. These changes are not damage. They are the material remaining visible.
The leather is Sedgwick British bridle leather—the same leather used across the CLASSIC line. Firm at first. Built to soften through use. If you want hardware that remains visually consistent, choose our mainline JOEY.

CARE
For routine care, wipe the hardware with the enclosed dry fibre cloth.
If green residue appears where brass meets leather, remove it gently with a soft, dry brush. Keep the leather dry.
Do not apply metal polish directly to the assembled belt. If you choose to polish, protect the leather carefully and follow the full Brass Care guide.

MADE-TO-MEASURE (MTM)
Standard sizes refer to the distance from the buckle end of the leather to the centre hole.
All KLDSCOPE measurements refer to the leather length only and exclude the buckle, as buckle dimensions vary by design.
For your first purchase, please review our Size Guide carefully. Made-to-Measure allows us to adjust the leather length, number of holes, hole spacing, and tail length to your specifications.
After placing an MTM order, email your requirements to info@klds.co. We will prepare a final measurement drawing for your approval before production.

ABOUT THE LEATHER - CLASSIC
Sedgwick & Co. has produced bridle leather in Walsall, England, for more than a century. The leather is traditionally curried and hot-stuffed with waxes and tallows, giving it a firm hand, dense structure, and waxy surface that softens and deepens through use. This is the same leather used across our CLASSIC line.

Unlacquered brass begins reacting to air, humidity, and touch immediately. We inspect and prepare every piece before dispatch, but its tone may begin shifting in storage or transit. Product photographs show a starting condition, not a permanently fixed colour.
No. It will gradually become warmer, darker, and less uniform. Areas you touch frequently may remain brighter than recessed or protected areas.
It is verdigris, which may form where brass meets vegetable-tanned leather in the presence of humidity. Remove it gently with a soft, dry brush. Do not soak the belt.
Use the enclosed dry cloth for routine care. If verdigris forms near the leather, remove it gently with a soft, dry brush and keep the leather dry. Do not apply metal polish directly to the assembled belt, as it may permanently mark the leather. You can refresh the surface, but full restoration requires careful masking around the leather.
