Traditionally used in saddles and horse tack because of its incredible strength and resistance to wear.
What actually happens inside a Sedgwick bridle butt?
- Only the densest, cleanest bridle butts are selected
- Slow vegetable-tanned for 6–12 months in oak bark pits
- Hot-stuffed with tallow, cod oil, and beeswax until the leather literally overflows
- Drum-dyed completely
- Hand-curried until that signature white wax bloom appears.
The result: 3.5–4 mm of firm, waxy, indestructible leather that starts life stiff, breaks in within weeks, and then ages for decades into a glossy, one-of-a-kind patina that no factory can fake.
