BEFORE YOU ORDER - LIVING FINISH & RETURN POLICY
This version is designed to change. Its tone may begin shifting in transit, and the buckle, two keepers, and tip will age at different rates.
FREE THE METAL is not eligible for returns, refunds, or size exchanges for change of mind, incorrect sizing, or natural finish variation. Once we assemble unlacquered brass onto vegetable-tanned leather, the materials begin responding to contact, humidity, and time. A returned belt may no longer retain its untouched starting condition and cannot be resold as new.
We therefore do not accept returns, refunds, or size exchanges for change of mind, incorrect sizing, or natural finish variation. This does not affect mandatory rights under applicable law if an item is faulty, damaged on arrival, or not as described.

KLDSCOPE LAB // EXPERIMENT 001: FREE THE METAL.
They told us to seal it. We chose to free it.
Unlacquered solid brass. Charcoal brown Italian suede. 20mm.
JOEY is built around four solid-brass components: one buckle, two keepers, and one tip. This version pairs that hard, shifting surface with suede that absorbs light rather than reflects it.
Solid brass hardware is often protected by a clear lacquer to keep its colour stable and visually consistent.
For EXPERIMENT 001, we left the brass unsealed. The main product photographs show the general starting tone you can expect, but unlacquered brass may continue to shift in storage and transit.
Without a clear lacquer, air, humidity, touch, and time remain visible on the surface. Its tone may already have begun to shift by the time the box reaches you. The most visible changes usually happen early. As the patina develops, the brass tends to settle into a slower, more stable state.
Frequently touched areas may behave differently from recessed areas, and the buckle, two keepers, and tip will develop at different rates. These changes are not damage. They are the material remaining visible.
The belt is cut from a single piece of 3.2mm full-thickness Italian suede. Neither bonded nor split, its deep matte surface feels soft from the beginning and carries natural variation in tone and nap. With wear, the colour deepens, the nap softens, and the edges begin to feather.
Here, leather and metal record wear in different ways.
If you want hardware that remains visually consistent, choose our mainline JOEY.
If you want to see time, choose this one.

MADE-TO-MEASURE (MTM)
Standard sizes refer to the distance from the buckle end of the leather to the centre hole.
All KLDSCOPE measurements refer to the leather length only and exclude the buckle, as buckle dimensions vary by design.
For your first purchase, please review our Size Guide carefully. Made-to-Measure allows us to adjust the leather length, number of holes, hole spacing, and tail length to your specifications.
After placing an MTM order, email your requirements to info@klds.co. We will prepare a final measurement drawing for your approval before production.
Please allow up to 14 business days for production.
ABOUT THE LEATHER - SUEDE
Italian Full-Thickness Suede
Defying the fragile reputation of conventional suede, our Italian Full-Thickness Suede is a testament to uncompromised structural integrity. Sourced directly from Conceria Mangusta—a revered 50-year-old Tuscan tannery that supplies Europe’s leading fashion houses—this leather represents the pinnacle of Italian craftsmanship.
Cut from a single, continuous piece of 3.2mm heavyweight leather, this is neither a bonded layer nor a cheap split suede. It is the complete, unaltered hide, presented flesh side out, with all its natural strength and density intact. The result is a striking physical contrast: a deep, luxurious matte surface that feels remarkably soft to the touch, yet has the rigidity to resist folding, rolling, or creasing.
It redefines what suede should be—delivering the refined texture you expect, backed by a hard-wearing resilience built to stand the test of time.
Note: Due to the rich, natural nap of the suede, the leather may display subtle shifts in shade depending on the direction of the fibres and the way the light falls. These dynamic variations in texture are authentic features of true, full-thickness suede, not defects.

Before You Order — FAQ
Unlacquered brass begins responding to air, humidity, and touch immediately. We inspect each piece before dispatch, then leave air, touch, humidity, and time visible on the surface, but its tone may begin shifting in storage or transit. Product photographs show a starting condition, not a permanently fixed colour.
Not permanently. The most visible changes usually happen early. As the patina develops, the brass tends to settle into a slower, more stable state. Frequently touched areas may remain brighter than recessed or protected areas.
Use the enclosed dry fibre cloth for routine care. If green residue appears near the leather, remove it gently with a soft, dry brush and keep the leather dry. Do not apply metal polish directly to the assembled belt. If you choose to polish, protect the leather carefully and follow the full Brass Care guide. Polishing can refresh the surface, but the finish will begin developing again and gradually settle.
